SHAKER WORK STATION
MATERIALS: Red oak, Steel
DIMENSIONS: 43"w X 16.75"d X 42"h
Inspired by the Shaker desks and their thoughtfulness for compartmentalization, L&G Studio decided to create a modern day working station that's both versatile and well-considered for different scenarios. The piece has a front which front folds down and opens up a working surface, while the inside has integrated accessories for organization. When one is finished with work, one can simply close the cover and visually stow away the work. The top section doubles as a standing work surface.
MATERIALS: Oak, cotton webbing
Large: 12.5”w x 18.5” L x 16”h
Small: 8.5” w x 12.5” L x 10”

ONE THING CLOCK
MATERIALS: whitened Red oak, glass, metal
DIMENSIONS: 10"w x 26"h x 5"d
For the Shakers, time was always viewed the through the lens of a single higher calling. To them, the more time spent working and worshipping, the closer they got to their goal of closeness to their God. This focus brought a great degree of clarity and purpose to the notion of time.
In contemporary times, our relationship with time is far more convoluted. Time is treated as a precious commodity while our attention towards it is ever more divided, unfocused, and contemptuous. All too often we find ourselves never finding time to do things important or meaningful to us - things that feed our souls, help others, simply feel more fulfilled.
The One Thing Clock seeks to subtly reframe how time is measured and perceived. Drawing on simplified references to traditional Shaker clock forms, an added diffused glass panel slightly ghosts the image of the clock face. A small, repositionable cut-out provides a clear window to a one hour/ ten minute period. This invites people to take that period to do the one thing that's most important to them personally. The open shelf space below provides a surface to store something reminiscent of that one thing - a book, a pen, or an object - acting as a functional shrine to the important task to be done.
DIMENSIONS: 10"w x 26"h x 5"d
Upon discovering the simple, elegant tin kitchen tools at Hancock Shaker Village, Jean Lee of L&G found immediate parallels with the everyday utensils she grew up with in Taiwan. The objects from each culture show a remarkably straightforward approach to function, material, and process...elegantly employing the structure created by folding materials in deliberate ways to create a beautifully utilitarian object.
Fold Utensils are handmade from a simple sheet of metal creased at the handle, which can double as a funnel if turned the other way. The utensils can also easily nest amongst themselves for easy storage. The simple forms are optimized for sheet cutting with little waste and can be proportioned endlessly to create tools for various uses from desert spoons to dust pans.
