Are Tektro rim brakes good?

Tektro have a reputation for offering good value braking kit, and the R538s are no exception. In terms of performance they’re not outstanding but they do the job and they’re a good option for a workhorse or tourer.

Is Tektro any good?

Tektro brakes don’t attract a lot of love but it’s a shame as they are absolutely fine. In terms of reliability, power and feel they are at least as good as Shimano equivalents. In fact Tektro brakes are very, very similar to shimano to the point of using the same pads at times. The ones I’ve encountered anyway.

Is Tektro a TRP?

As I said, TRP is the high-end division of Tektro, the initials originally standing for Tektro Racing Products – although the name is now just TRP. Essentially, Tektro products tend to be mass market while TRP are more exclusive, high-performance components.

Are tektro calipers interchangeable?

In theory yes they will be interchangeable, but if the Tektros use alignment washers you may need to carry them over to the Shimanos, otherwise the new calipers may foul the rotors. If the calipers just bolt on then you should be fine.
