What is interactive AR?

Augmented reality (AR) is an interactive 3D experience that combines a view of the real world with computer-generated elements. AR is different from VR in that VR is a completely self-contained computer environment while AR layers computer elements among real objects in real time.

What is Discover AR?

Using Augmented Reality technology, the Discover AR transfers realistic colors and life-like images onto the sand for a mesmerizing sensory experience. Children will learn about geography, topography, seasons, animal habitats, and more as they create new worlds and explore interactive environments.

What are the applications of AR?

There are many applications in the manufacturing sector waiting to be explored by augmented reality. These include predictive maintenance, streamlined logistics, more efficient product design and development, optimized assembly schedule and processes, and expert support with data management.

What is the augmented reality sandbox?

The Augmented Reality (AR) Sandbox is one example of such an interface. Initially developed as part of a Winter Scholarship Project, it uses a Microsoft Kinect, a projector and a table full of sand to create interactive environments.

What is an AR sandbox?

The resulting augmented reality (AR) sandbox allows users to create topography models by shaping real sand, which is then augmented in real time by an elevation color map, topographic contour lines, and simulated water.

Do I need to calibrate my sandbox?

By now your sandbox should already have sand it in (as noted in previous steps). You want the sand surface to be as level as possible but it doesn’t need to be perfectly level. To calibrate your sandbox, you’ll need an alignment target and several spacers to help you perform the alignment at multiple heights.

What is the sandbox project?

Initially developed as part of a Winter Scholarship Project, it uses a Microsoft Kinect, a projector and a table full of sand to create interactive environments. Digging and moving the sand changes the simulated environment, and allows people to engage easily with complex content.
